  • The American Women’s Baseball League is gearing up for the 2005 Women’s World Series, to be played at Disney’s Wide World of Sports [r] Complex in the International Division of Disney’s Sunshine Showdown baseball tournament, October 7-10, 2005. If you’ve not seen women’s amateur baseball, you’ve missed a great experience. www.womensbaseball.com
  • The Association of Women in Sports Media (AWSM) mentors young women entering the field through scholarships, internships, and contact with veteran members; serves as a positive advocate for women in the field through support services, networking and national visibility; and promotes the fair portrayal of female professionals in sports media, encouraging diversity and positive workplace environments. In doing all of this, the members of AWSM find they also have a hell of a good time. Their annual convention will be held this year in San Diego over Memorial Day weekend. www.awsm.org

  • The Pawtucket Slaterettes Girls’ & Women’s Baseball League began its 32nd season April 30, 2005. www.slaterettes.com

  • The Baseball Reliquary, the West Coast’s anti-establishment Hall of Fame, has honored lefthander Ila Borders and minor-league umpire Pam Postema with induction into its Shrine of the Eternals. Terry Cannon, the Reliquary’s founder whom I consider an honorary woman, presents “Life After Baseball: From Espionage to Evangelism” May 2 – May 28, 2005 at the Burbank Central Library. www.baseballreliquary.org
